Increase in Visitor Arrivals

The figures released by Immigration Office, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) reveal that visitor arrivals in the month of Feb 2013, compared to the same month last year, have increased by 6% to 45,123.
 
Arrivals from Asia (other than South Asia) have also recorded healthy growth of 46% in aggregate with mixed performance from the individual countries. There has been robust growth of 135% in visitor arrivals from China which is one of the fastest growing tourist markets for Nepal. Visitor arrivals from Malaysia and Singapore and have registered a positive growth of 288.1%, and 111.9% respectively. However, visitor arrivals from Japan, South Korea and Thailand have registered negative growth of 20.1%, 29.4%, and 0.3% respectively.
 
The arrivals from South Asian region have recorded negative growth of 15.2% with Pakistan (44.3%) and Sri Lanka (35.3%) registering positive growth. Visitor arrivals from India, which is the largest source market for Nepal witnessed decline by 18.2%. Visitor arrivals from Bangladesh have declined by 5.3%. 
 
European markets registered negative growth of 5.5% with major destinations showing mixed reaction in terms of visitor arrivals. Arrivals from Germany and the Netherlands are up by 8.3% and 21% respectively while arrivals from UK, France, Italy, Switzerland and Russia have recorded negative growth of 6%, 13.7%, 31.8%, 8.7% and 8% respectively.
 
Tourist arrivals from USA, Canada and New Zealand have increased by 11.2 %, 42.2% and 44.8% respectively. However arrivals from Australia have decreased by 5.5%.
 
A total of 48,783 foreign tourists departed from TIA in Feb 2013.The number of Nepalese arrivals stood at 58,379 while 70,635 Nepalese departed from TIA in Feb 2013.

First Mid-Western Region Tourism Fair from March 8

First Mid-Western Region Tourism Fair is going to be held from March 8-10 at Surkhet Road in Nepalgunj.

Nepal Tourism Board is organizing this fair with the main objective of the event is to bring to light the tourism potentials in the region and to develop the livelihood of the people through tourism.

The three-day event will see the participation of tourism entrepreneurs and stakeholders from the region. It will feature the stalls of various tourism organizations, government and non government agencies, district development committees, tourism development committees among others, said the organizers.

Nepal Tourism Board has organized a press meet at the border city of Naanpada, Baharaichh in the Uttar Pradesh of India prior to the inauguration of First Mid-Western Regional Tourism Fair 2069.

Speaking at the interaction program, organized in coordination with Nepal-India Joint Journalists’ Forum, Nepal Chapter, Lila Bahadur Baniya, Manager of NTB and the Coordinator of the fair briefed the Indian media about the various aspects of the fair and also highlighted the importance of the fair in establishing linkages among the tourism products of the mid western region. “NTB is aiming at promoting the tourism products of the region in the border towns of India and also throwing limelight on further enhancing the reputation of Nepalgunj as the hub of mid western region,” Baniya briefed the media. NTB made a multimedia presentation in the program and answered to the queries raised by the Indian mediapersons.

NTB had earlier organized First Far Western Regional Tourism Fair 2069 in the Dhangadi from February 15 to 17, 2013.

Nepal Participated at Guangzhou International Travel Fair - 2013

Nepal Tourism Board along with six private sector travel companies successfully participated at the Guangzhou International Travel Fair – 2013 (GITF-2013) held from 7-9 March at China Import and Export Fair Complex, Xingang East Road, Haizhu District in Guangzhou, China. GITF-2013 hosted nearly 700 exhibitors both domestic and overseas exhibitors representing 37 countries. The GITF-2013 showcased a variety of travel products and services in the 22,000 sq. mt exhibition area.

Visitor arrivals from China has recorded sustained increase. In 2012,  the arrival figure from China showed robust increase in visitor arrivals up by 38% to 85,739 compared to 2011. China’s Travel and Tourism Competitiveness ranked 39th in the world, whilst China’s number of outbound tourists ranked third in the world in 2012. The number of outbound tourists is expected to reach 94.30 million, up 15% from 2012. Outbound travel expenditure is expected to be 117.6 billion US $, up 20%.

Mr. Sunil Sharma - Manager and Ms.Janaki Upadhyay - Asst.Officer  represented NTB at the fair. The six private companies co-exhibited with NTB at the show were ITour International Travel Services Pvt. Ltd.,Shuangi Qi Tours  Pvt. Ltd., S&T Holidays Pvt. Ltd., Nepal Social Tours & Travels, Kudan Travel and Tours Pvt.Ltd and Asia Explore Adventure and Travel.

2nd Nepal Int'l Trade Fair kicks off

The second edition of Nepal International Trade Fair kicked off at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu on March 8, 2013.

The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) with the promotion of Nepal Tourism Board and in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry along with Federation of Handicraft Association Nepal (FHAN) are organising the event.

The five-day event is showcasing around 350 stalls with participation of international buyers and SAARC level business persons.

The event is also featuring B2B meetings focused especially on the products identified by the Nepal Trade Integration Strategy (NTIS). The organizers expect around 200,000 footfalls.

Management conference kicks off

Experts from across the globe will brainstorm on reorganising organisations for responsible management and entrepreneurs for three days starting March 10, 2013. “The second international conference on management will see some 102 papers from representatives of  35 countries in 16 technical sessions on March 10-12, 2013. Organised by Nepalese Academy of Management in cooperation with Presidential Business School and various business and financial institutions, and educational institutions on the theme ‘Reshaping Organisations to Develop Responsible Global Leadership’, the conference will also have presentations by a dozen international experts in the plenary. The second edition of the two-year international conference will also exchange the latest developments in management, its implications and share their experiences. The first Nepalese Academy of Management international conference was held in Kathmandu in 2011.

Nepal to host Paragliding World Cup in 2015

The lake city of Pokhara in west Nepal will host the 2015 Paragliding World Cup and preparations are underway to successfully accomplish the event. "As our target is to host the important event of adventure tourism in Nepal, we are conducting several preparatory competitions from here onward," Rajesh Bamjan, chairperson of Nepal Air-sports Association, was quoted as saying by Karobar daily.

In this connection, a five-day Open Paragliding Competition was organized from February 28 to March 4 in Pokhara, in which more than 120 pilots from USA, UK, China, India, Japan and Russia, among others, have participated. "Participants are from more than 20 countries. The event will promote tourism as well as help develop adventure sports in Nepal, "Bamjan added.

The event is being organized in close collaboration with the Federation Aeronautic International, which is responsible for all major international paragliding events.

Paragliding will take off from Sarangkot, a hilltop above Fewa Lake and will have competitions in seven categories, including best spot-landing, best raft-landing and the best acrobats.
