Nepal gains a foothold in Turkish outbound

The Nepal Tourism Board, along with 5 private sector companies, participated in the 18th edition of EMITT (East Mediterranean International Travel and Tourism Exhibition), organized in Istanbul, Turkey from January 30 to February 2, 2014. With the Turkish Airlines connect Istanbul to Kathmandu and the obvious prospects of an increase in the number of tourists from Turkey in particular and Europe in general, this was Nepal Tourism Boards maiden representation in the event. With 70 countries and approximately 5000 exhibitors this year, participation in EMITT was a positive and proactive step taken by NTB.

Also, Nepal Tourism Board, in co-ordination with Nepalese Honorary Consul General Prof. Dr. F. Gunseli Malkoc and Honorary Public Relations Representative of Nepal Tourism Board in Turkey Mr. Baris Malkoc, organized a special program in Istanbul on 28 January 2014 to commemorate the ongoing Mt. Everest Diamond Jubilee Celebration program. In a program attended by the local tour operators, media and aviation industry altogether 85 Ms. Nandini Lahe Thapa, Sr. Director, NTB, presented the diverse facets of Nepals tourism to the assembly. Five Turkish Everest summiteers were conferred upon special commemorative medals. The medal recipients include such renowned names as Mr. Tunc Findik, the first Turkish to summit Everest from Nepali side and Mr. Ali Nasuh Mahruki, the first Muslim climber to summit Everest. Likewise, the other summiteers felicitated in the program were Mr. Mustafa Kalayci, Mr. Firat Eren and Mr. Yilmaz Sevgul. Speaking on behalf of the medal recipients, Mr. Findik and Mr. Mahruki expressed joy and gratitude to the Nepal government for this recognition and reiterated their commitment in promoting Nepals mountains, and Nepal too.

Whereas Nepal Tourism Board was represented by Ms. Nandini Lahe Thapa, Senior Disrector and Mr. Udaya Bhattarai, Manager-in-charge, the fellow private sector participants were Soaltee Crowne Plaza, Malla Travel and Trek Services, Outdoor Expeditions, The Explore Nepal and Aarya Village Travel Pvt. Ltd. Turkish Airlines partnered with NTB for the event.

Nepal participates SATTE 2014

Nepal Tourism Board successfully led Nepals participation at SATTE 2014 in New Delhi along with 9 prominent Tour companies of Nepal from 29th to 31st Jan 2014. SATTE, South Asias leading travel & tourism event has evolved into an exceptional platform for networking and building long term business ties. Over 7500 trade visitors participated in SATTE 2014 to interact with approx. 600 exhibitors from over 40 countries. SATTE being purely B 2 B event, the B2B session of the program was dedicated to trade exchange where Nepalese Tour Operators and visiting Travel Trade had one-to-one interaction and business dealings.  The travel trade from all over the world had extensive deliberation with the Nepalese tour operators, which helped towards enhancing the existing business, forging new alliances.

The private sector participants from Nepal had prefixed business appointments with many of the visiting Indian Tour operators, in order to tap the summer holiday season for Indians. Nepal Tourism Board officials, Mrs Ujjwala Dali, Senior Manager India market as well as Mr. Pradeep Poudyal Assistant Manager in- charge Corporate Services interacted with  the visiting buyers, especially with the walk in trade to understand the changing trends in India market and the preferences of Indian travelers. Mrs Dali also updated the buyers regarding new upcoming soft adventure products like Zip drive as well as about the new emerging destinations in Eastern Nepal like Ilam, Basantpur. Many Buyers, besides standard destinations like Kathmandu and Pokhara showed interest particularly in trekking, wildlife and adventure activities of Nepal.

The 09 companies, which participated in SATTE 2014 were Hotel Annapurna & Fishtail Lodge, Buddha Air, Ojha Holidays Tours and Travels, Fishtail Tours & Travels, Shangrila Hotel & Resorts, Abhiwadan Holidays, Nepal Holiday Makers Tours & Travels, Visit Nepal- Tibet Treks & Expedition, Icefall adventures.

Himalayan Travel Mart to be held in May

 Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Nepal Chapter is organizing ´Himalayan Travel Mart´ (HTM) in Kathmandu in May.

The recently held 38th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of PATA Nepal Chapter decided to hold the mart from May 29 to 31. Fifty buyers and sellers are expected to participate in the event.

According to PATA Nepal Chapter, buyers are expected to come mainly come from Europe, America, Australia and New Zealand and Russia. Likewise, the group of sellers will include tour operators from the Himalayan countries, including Nepal, India, China, Bhutan and some from South East Asia, Africa, Central Asia and South America shares similar markets as that of Nepal.

Jyotsna Lama Khadka, CEO of PATA Nepal Chapter, said the travel mart is being organized as a continuation of the Diamond Jubilee Year of the first ascent of Mount Everest and coincides with the International Sagarmatha Day that falls on May 29.

“Nepal had always been participating in international marts. HTM is an effort to bring international buyers and sellers to Nepal and show them the beauty of our country which will definitely help in tourism promotion,” said Khadka.

PATA is also organizing a conference on the sidelines of the event wherein international resource persons will conduct sessions on marketing, management, human resource, information technology and their implications in the tourism industry on the first day while remaining two days will be allocated for the B2B session.

Soaltee Wins 'TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice 2014

Soaltee Crowne Plaza on February 6, 2014 said that it had won the TripAdivisor Travellers’  Choice 2014 for getting the highest number of appreciations from its guests on TripAdisor.com for its product and service offers. Issuing a statement, Nailn Mandiratta, the General Manager of the hotel said, “We are happy to be recognized as one of the World’s best properties, based on the opinions of our valuable guests who express their views & feedback on TripAdvisor. I am proud of the efforts of my dedicated team for our success.”

IRCTC to Start of One Night Stay in Lumbini

Mr. Bikram Pandey, the Goodwill Ambassador for Lumbini, had had a cordial meeting with Deputy General Manager of  Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) Mr. Jitendra Kumar on his recent visit to New Delhi. This was a follow up meeting with Jitendra Kumar on 29th January 2014 to his earlier meeting in Bhairahawa on 17th January 2013 after the successful Lumbini Peace Marathon regarding promotion of Lumbini as minimum one night stay visit for all IRCTC Mahaparinirvana Buddhist Circuit Tourists.

After long negotiation & convincing of IRCTC officials about the advantage of keeping minimum one night in Lumbini which would without doubt give high satisfaction to their Buddhist Circuits travelling customers has finally paid off. At the initiative of Jitendra Kumar, IRCTC has changed their Lumbini visit programme to one night stay from 2014 from their earlier day return trip.
